D1A, A Bit of Fresh Air

[Kasuga Tsukaisute]

Kasuga Tsukaisute, out for a stroll after having done reasonably well for himself at the court, finds a dumpling stand. After a brief bit of haggling that does not go as well as might be hoped, he tucks in, watching to see who may join him.

[Narrator]

The dumpling vendor seems pleased with his good fortune at meeting such a generous Tortoise samurai, and hands a dish of dumplings over with a smile. They are hot and fresh; seasoned differently than how they make them in Tsukaisute's home province, but they prove to be quite delicious.

With a murmured "I accept it humbly," Tsukaisute eats happily. He's done enough to know that every place has its charms, but a good meal is ever to be appreciated. And he says as much to the vendor, putting on a winning smile and praising the meal. "I've not had dumplings like these before, friend, so savory and fresh. You've luck folks here, to have such food."

Get 'em smiling, get 'em with you, get what you need from 'em, he thinks, recalling the lessons of his sensei.

"It makes a man wonder what else he can find here."
