Touching a Miracle Shrine (Day 4 Morning)

Post by Narrator » Mon Oct 15, 2018 10:12 pm

The Moshi shugenja have learned that the drought in the Valley is a curse due to Amaterasu's displeasure at the Lion conquest of the Valley. The only way to end the curse is for a member of the Moshi family to climb to the very summit of the Mountain of the Sun Goddess and pray at the shrine there.

Perhaps you choose to assist with this.

Challenge:
You must have a member of the Moshi family agree to undertake this effort. You can satisfy this by any of:
- Being a Moshi.
- Ally: any Moshi.
- Persuading a Moshi family member to help with any of: AWA/Sincerity (Honesty) TN15, AWA/Courtier (Manipulation) TN15 or WIL/Intimidation (Bullying) TN15.

All Moshi are hostages to the Lion, essentially under house arrest in Kyuden Moshi. You must get the permission of the Lion to have one of the Moshi climb the mountain. You can satisfy this by any of:
- Being a Lion.
- Ally: any Lion.
- Convincing the Lion guards to allow this, with any of: AWA/Sincerity (Honesty) TN20, AWA/Courtier (Manipulation) TN20 or WIL/Intimidation (Bullying) TN20.

The Moshi and the Lion are not heimin, so Kasuga 1 technique does not apply.

If you fail either of these rolls, you are denied permission and cannot continue in this event. (But you may try a different event.)

Focus:
Having received permission from the Lion to attempt this task, there is a difficult climb ahead.

You may do one of:
- Help with the climb. STR/Athletics (Climbing) TN15. Gain 1 FR if you have Way of the Land: Valley of the Centipede. Gain 1 FR if you noticed the footpath in the Hawks and Falcons event (cumulative). If you fail this roll, you suffer 1k1 wounds as you slip and injure yourself.
- Blaze a trail up the mountainside. PER/Hunting (Trailblazing) TN15. Gain 1 FR if you have Absolute Direction. Gain 1 FR if you noticed the footpath in the Hawks and Falcons event (cumulative).

Strike:
You must assist with the ritual to placate Amaterasu.
Roll VOID/Meditation TN20 (does not regain void), VOID/Lore: Theology TN20 or AWA/Perform (any) TN20.

You gain 1 FR for each other player who succeeded at a focus attempt different than yours.
If you did not succeed at your focus attempt, you must call a raise for no effect.
If you have Wrath of the Kami, you must also call an additional raise to overcome their wrath.
Remember that you cannot call raises or benefit from free raises on unskilled rolls.
The kami are not heimin, so Kasuga 1 technique does not apply.

Rewards:
If you succeed, your actions are pleasing to Amaterasu and you gain 1xp, 1 rank in the skill you used in the Strike attempt, and +0.2 honor. Otherwise you gain 1xp.

A ronin who succeeds at the Strike attempt is permitted to swear fealty to the Moshi family and may train in the Moshi Shugenja school (if female) or Moshi Guardian of the Sun path (if male). However, a ronin who fails at the Strike attempt is ridiculed and gains +0.2 infamy for their presumptuousness.

Story effect:
If the majority of players who participate in this event succeed at the Strike attempt, the curse is lifted and the drought ends.
Otherwise, the ritual is unsuccessful and the drought continues.
